(Eiris Park, Coruña, Spain)

La Coruña is a spanish city located in the autonomous community of Galicia. Eiris Park is located at the southeast of the city. It is an urban park with a wide range of leisure and sports activities.

Eiris Park is located in the Eiris neighborhood , between the Matogrande neighborhood and the C.H.U.A.C. The park has a large pergola where you can shelter from the sun or rain, with benches to rest or have a snack. It has children’s areas, climbing area, a zip line, a skate area and a large pond with ducks. It also has more than 3,500 square meters for dogs, which has a washing area and circuits to play and train pets. In the park we can also find the Eiris castle, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.

Eiris Skatepark was oficially opened in 2005. But over the years the facility became obsolete and deteriorated. For this reason, City Council of La Coruña promoted the replacement of the old skatepark with a new one with actual characteristics that responded to the stakeholders demands.

New Eiris Skatepark has two main areas: skateplaza and bowl. The total area for practicing both modalities is 1.665 m2. Half of the aerea is dedicated for skateplaza and the other for a bowl area. There is a balanced distribution of the park and street areas in terms of space through dialogue with stakeholders. A central garden has been planned between the bowl and the skateplaza and a pedestrian area with sitting areas, bike racks and a fountain. In addition, 3,000 m2 of green areas have been setted with new plantations.

Skateplaza area has minimalist design that captures the essence of the spanish plazas. We have worked with local granites such as Rosa Porriño for the flatground and Ponte de Lima for the solid blocks. The main goal is to design an urban and sustainable space with a progressive design of curbs and rails that makes learning easier.

Bowl design has an long silhouette parallel to the skateplaza. Central garden and pedestrian promenade establish a boundary between the two skating areas. The design of the bowl generates two different depths and heights that goes between 1.30 m and 2.50 m.
