(Candelaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain)
Candelaria is a city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife province, on the island of Tenerife. The Virgin of Candelaria, patron saint of the Canary Islands, is located here. It is considered the sacred place and pilgrimage of the archipelago. Every February 2 and August 14 and 15, thousands of pilgrims from all the islands come to Villa Mariana to celebrate the feast of the patron saint in the so-called “walk to Candelaria”. The city has not only a great religious importance, but also historically, since the Guanche and Castilian cultures united here around the image of the Virgin.

This skatepark is located in Candelaria, near a sports and recreational area just 500 meters from Punta Larga beach. It is located next to Bruno Alberto Sabina Soccer Field, inside a sports area that includes an artificial turf field and a 5-a-side football pitch, among other facilities. The Punta Larga Secondary School is located next to this sports area.

The skatepark is located inside the sports complex, on a narrow, elongated plot of approximately 800 m2. Legends of Canarian skateboarding, such as José Luis de La Rosa and Iban Martín, first rode here on a wooden halfpipe that no longer exists. Years later, the Candelaria City Council initiated a participatory process to design a new sports facility.

The skatepark design includes a bowl with diferent depths and a perimeter area with some street features. The skatepark’s organic shapes and gray color, contrasting with the colorful graffiti by @sabotajealmontaje, create an interesting composition in a public space dedicated sports.
